Built in Barrow-in-Furness for Furness, Withy & Co of Liverpool, the Noval Scotia, and sister ship Newfoundland, plied the transatlantic mail route between Liverpool and Canada. During the Second World War she carried children leaving Britain for evacuation overseas. In 1941 she was requisitioned as a troop ship. She was sunk by a German submarine off the coast of South Africa in November 1942.
