He was barrister at Lincoln's Inn from 1806, and later a King's/Queen's Counsel from 1831 In 1814 he married Mary Griffin (sister of Jane Griffin, later Lady Jane Franklin) : they had two sons, John Nassau and Francis Guillemard, and three daughters who lived to adulthood, Mary Louisa, Emma Jane and Marianne Jane. In October 1845 he was knighted. Son of John Simpkinson and his wife Renee de Wesselow; brother-in-law of Jane Griffin, later Lady Franklin.
