The business appears to have been built by John Jerram (1835-1927) at premises in Babington Lane, Derby. John Jerram retired in or about 1893 and was succeeded as head of the firm by his business partner, Thomas Furner (1855-1903) and subsequently by Thomas Furner's son Arthur Clive Furner (1896-1977). The firm was incorporated as a limited company in 1905.
