Protestant Meeting Houses The Toleration Act 1 Wm and M c18 (1688) obliged dissenting congregations to register their places of meeting with the bishop or archdeacon or with the justices of the peace. An Act of 52 Geo IV c 155 (1812) required that places registered should also be returned to the alternative registration authority.
