  <dc:title>Stanley Colliery signing-on book</dc:title>
<dc:description>Workmen sign to agree to serve the company under the terms of the contract rules and regulations of the colliery.
Arranged alphabetically by initial letter of surname in two sections, first for underground workers, then for surface workers at end. Columns for surname, Christian name, age (not used), married or single, address, occupation, date of birth (originally headed, whether workman qualified to work alone under Section 73 of the Coal Mining Act 1911), date started (originally headed, whether workman had previously suffered from Miners' Nystagmus), date left (originally headed, whether workman had previously suffered from silicosis or pneumokoniosis), signature (never used), date of signing, and witness (never used).
The book would seem to have been started in 1951, but including workmen first employed as far back as the 1900s. The identification of Stanley Colliery is by no means clear, so it could possibly be for Mapperley.
