<dc:title>Old Age Pensions Committee Minute books</dc:title>
<dc:description>The Old Age Pensions Act 1908 granted a non-contributory pension of 5s per week to those over 70. It was the duty of county and county borough councils to appoint committees to assess claimants' income. District sub-committees were also created (for Shirebrook, see 1/20/1); in 1922, there were 30 of these. The Committee's powers were finally divided between the Ministry of Pensions and National Insurance and the National Assistance Board - as a result of the National Insurance Act 1946 and the National Assistance Act 1948.</dc:description>
