<dc:title>Printed copy of correspondence respecting H.M.S. Resolute and the Arctic Expedition</dc:title>
<dc:description>Correspondence dated 31 Dec 1855 - 21 Apr 1857. H.M.S. Resolute had been part of the expedition led by Sir Edward Belcher, under the command of Henry Kellett. Embedded in the Arctic ice, it was abandoned on the orders of Sir Edward Belcher in 1853, but found by an American whaler captained by James Buddington in September 1855 and sailed back to New London, Connecticut. Although the British waived all rights to the ship, it was purchased from Buddington and refitted by the American Congress, who then returned it to England.
