Gives news of his health and diet during the winter.  Describes journey from [Fort] Cumberland made by himself and Back; including observations of animals, local inhabitants and scenery.  Has met someone who accompanied Hearne - but old with imperfect memory.  Red Knives may be a source of local territorial information.  Envisages spending the next winter further north.  Information received from Indians encourages his belief in the existence of a north west passage: its discovery is dependent on divine providence.  Hopes to receive letters with news of his family: gives detailed information about conveyance of letters by Huson's Bay [Company] ship.   Refers to drawings by Back and mentions Mr Goulburne and Sir Geo Warrender.  Since writing the first part of the letter has learned more from Red Knives.  Refers to an abundance of animals on banks of Coppermine river. 8 Jun 1820
