Jessop family of Butterley Wills, probates and correspondence concerning the families Overton Hall, Ashover and Matlock Bath estates These papers appear to relate chiefly to probate and other legal or financial matters concerning the descendants of Major John Jessop, including his son William Jessop of Butterley Hall (d1884), and his grandsons John Edmund Jessop of Maidenhead (d1893) and William de Burgh Jessop of Overton Hall, Ashover (d1894). Of Butterley Co. interest is the deed of dissolution in 1884 of the partnership between Francis Beresford Wright, Fitzherbert Wright and William Jessop. There are also deeds of gift of shares in the company, 1851 and 1866. William Jessop (d1884) was an enthusiastic yachtsman and his papers include material relating to his yacht Florinda. In addition to papers concerning the estate of John Edmund Jessop (d1893), there is a news cutting relating to posthumous legal case for debt against Mrs Georgina Jessop (d1894), possibly his wife. William de Burgh Jessop (d1894) married Judith Alleyne in 1880. In 1883 he bought the Overton Hall estate, Ashover, after the death of its previous owner, Mynors Bright. William’s sister, Martha Lydia, married in 1876 Colonel Albert C Hubbersty (later Cantrell-Hubbersty), a businessman. Cantrell-Hubbersty and William de Burgh Jessop were involved in management of the Matlock Bath estate and of the New Bath Hotel Co which went in voluntary liquidation in the early 1900s. late 19th century
