  <dc:title>Advertisement (size 12cm x 12cm) for a medal commercially produced by Mr [James] Taylor, of [71 Summer Lane] Birmingham.  The advertisement declares that the medal was approved by the Council of the National Anti-Corn Law League, meeting in Manchester in December 1841</dc:title>
  <dc:description>The Corn Laws, in force in the United Kingdom between 1815 and 1846,  imposed restrictions and tariffs on imported grain.  The Anti-Corn Law League was a nation-wide political movement advocating free trade.  

The medal is described: the obverse shows a starving artisan and family, with symbols of economic depression related to the impact of the Corn Laws; the reverse shows an artisan and family with symbols of a positive economic outlook.  

Derbyshire Record Office does not hold an example of such a medal, but an image of one is attached to this catalogue record.</dc:description>
