  <dc:title>Whaley Bridge Incline</dc:title>
<dc:description>Installed in 1833, the short 180 yard incline with a gradient of 1:13½, rises some 40'. The 10 hp winding engine was out of use by 1862 due to colliery subsidence, and substituted by a horse-operated capstan. The building in the background with the chimney is a former colliery, possibly Bingswood.</dc:description>
