<dc:title>Wantage</dc:title>
<dc:description>Ancient 0-4-0WT (well tank) from the Sandy & Potton Railway built by George England in 1857, and tried on the CHPR in 1863 after the LNWR had taken over working the line in April 1861. It was stationed at Ladmanlow for two weeks, but was returned to Longsight Depot as unsuitable.
It was incorporated into LNWR stock as loco number 1104 in 1862. In 1878 it was sold to the Wantage Tramway and named 'Shannon', on which it worked until the line closed in 1947. It is now preserved at Didcot, but at the time of the photograph was mounted on a plinth under a cover at Wantage Station on the former GWR.
