Cromford Goods Kitson Dock Tank 47000 outside the loco shed at Cromford Goods. The building was one of the three original C&HPR buildings along with the transit shed (wharf shed) and the workshops (fitting shop). Prior to its use as an engine shed, it was the chain shed and was used to take delivery via the canal of fittings and chains associated with the inclines, presumably delivered by canal from the Butterley Company. It subsequently became a joiner's shop until about 1865 from around 1857-58 when incline chains were superseded by ropes. About 1885 it was converted into a loco shed and served this use right up until the line closed on 3rd April 1967. Note the crane in the background at the stone works. 20th Cent
