<dc:title>Newhaven Tunnel</dc:title>
<dc:description>The plaque at the south end of Newhaven Tunnel showing a wagon in the centre surrounded by the words 'Cromford & High Peak Railway 1825' and in the corners 'P H & Co'. It is thought that this could be the initials of the contractor, but the only contractor on this length was Porteus & Co. It could be Philip Heacock who was in the committee formed at the meeting on 16th June 1824 and who was in 1829 agent to the Duke of Devonshire.</dc:description>
