  <dc:title>Whaley Incline Top</dc:title>
<dc:description>View towards the top of the incline and the horse capstan which replaced the original 10hp beam engine in 1862, due to colliery subsidence affecting the beam engine. The horse capstan was the means of haulage up the incline right up into BR days until 1952. In the background is the unusual building formerly Bingswood? Colliery. The capstan is presumably mounted on the site of the former engine house.</dc:description>
