<dc:title>Whitworth of Stancliffe Hall, Darley Dale</dc:title>
<dc:description>The majority of papers in this series relate to the property of Joseph Whitworth, later Sir Joseph Whitworth, baronet, in Darley Dale, and were collected by his solicitors Messrs F and H Taylor of Bakewell. By his will, his property was vested in his wife Dame Mary Louisa Whitworth, the Worshipful Richard Copley Christie, Chancellor of the Diocese of Manchester, and Robert Dukinfield Darbishire of Manchester. They built the Whitworth Institute in Darley Dale, which after the death of Lady Whitworth became vested in trustees for educational and recreational purposes to benefit of the inhabitants of Darley and district.</dc:description>
