  <dc:description>In 1934 a scheme was established for the running of 4 charities by one body made up of trustees from the Borough Council. The 4 charities were: the Prince of Wales Fund; the Indian Famine Fund; the Christmas Gifts Fund for Derby Soldiers, Sailors and Nurses Serving Abroad; and the Mayoress of Derby’s Work for Women Fund.  They became known for the sake of convenience as the Amalgamated Charities.</dc:description>
