Note on Repton: The three following Mercian Kings buried at Repton:- Ethelbald 750, Mercwala and Kynechardus. A human skeleton about 1678 in 1727 Thomas Walton, labourer, 88 years old, about 40 years ago (sic) discovered it when cutting hillocks; found an old stone wall, an enclosure of 15 feet. In a stone coffin found a human skeleton 9 feet long - round it 100 of ordinary size laid with their feet pointing towards the coffin. Mr Bower had the head. undated. Note The wording of the item about the Skeleton makes no sense but possibly the meaning is that Thomas Walton, aged 88 years in 1727, about 40 years previously in about 1678 had discovered a human skeleton
