Rev. William Alderson: expresses a strong opinion on Sir Henry's plan not to stand for parliament - "... were it possible for you to have done anything to have raised my choler, you have certainly hit upon the only expedient. You have destroyed in a moment the only fabric that I have been ambitious to build and probably thrown your native county into the hands of some foolish Tory or, still worse, some insolent Whig. I am well aware that your decisions are never rashly or even hastily formed. But when once formed, I also know they are as difficult to be changed as the laws of the Medes and the Persians of old.... I shall patiently await the day when it will be my good fortune to meet with you, when I shall come charged with the wishes of the majority of the freeholders in Scarsdale, and overwhelm all those pigmy reasons with which you are or can be armed ...". 2 March 1822
