- to wife Sarah, an annuity of £800 under the terms of their marriage settlement; and £200 immediately on his decease, together with all chaises, carriages, carts, sheep, and cattle; and all the personal effects Sarah possessed before her marriage;
- to cousin Richard Bateman of Derby esq., lands in Tissington, and the plantation of Turner's Hall, Barbados, to hold in trust for testator's eldest son, Anthony; 'the person or persons in charge of Turner's Hall are to maintain the number of negro and mulatto slaves at 220 `as by that means there will be less chance of their being oppressed by labour, and I recommend that the greatest care and most humane treatment may be observed towards those unfortunate objects';
- Bateman, who is to be executor, is to discharge debt of £2500 to testator's uncle, James FitzHerbert; all personal effects and furniture to remain at Tissington as heirlooms. </dc:description>
