Aggravation of pre-existing osteo-arthritis noted and NUM representative used a Commissioner's previous decision in a similar case to make the point that despite the presence of this condition, Hallam had been able to do his job up to the time of the accident. Hallam wrote a letter of thanks to Messrs Parkin and Barlow at the NUM and in reply: 'It is encouraging to know that you appreciate the services of this department. We are always pleased when we are able to satisfy our members'.</dc:description>
