Probate of Alexander Slater of Bengal Place, New Kent Road, Surrey, gent. To be buried in Nunhead Cemetery if he should die in London, or in Chesterfield, if he should die there; to his wife Charlotte Slater, an annuity of £350 for life to be charged upon his real and personal estate not specifically disposed of; to his wife also, £1000; if his wife does not survive him, viz. £100 each to each of his wife's 4 sisters and the residue to his cousin Robert Alexander Slater; to Robert Alexander Slater, £2000; to his nephew Rev John William Thomas, the gold watch and appendages which belonged to his late brother (Adam Barker Slater) with an amber cabinet and case, his silver peg tankard; all the remainder of his silver plate which he received under the will of his brother, to the use of his wife for life and then to Robert Alexander Slater; the plate which formerly belonged to his wife's father with the residue of his own plate, his household goods, furniture, china, glass, books etc., to his wife; to Benjamin Evans, surgeon, £100 in remembrance of his careful attention; to Henry or Harry Brown, £19 10s; to the following officers of Southwark Savings Bank, the sums mentioned viz., Henry Charles Sims, £19 10s.; William Turner the younger; £19 10s.; Frederick Winder, £10; to each of the servants living with him at the time of his death, one year's wages; all his real estate and the residue of his personal estate, to Rev John will, dated 5 Aug 1853, with codicil niece, 2 Sep 1853, proved at Canterbury 12 Feb 1856
