DescriptionThe drawings in this collection have various subjects, but the main themes are the natural world, the English countryside, and the places and people that inspired the writer D H Lawrence. There are also some examples of political caricatures dating from World War II (D6995/2/8-15), and pictures of Walt Disney cartoon characters (D6995/2/6, 26, 43-45). The collection includes some drawings by other local artists, J E Hill and Alan Gill, which were collected by Mr Bronson (D6995/2/68-78).

Administrative HistoryJack Bronson (d. 2006) was an artist and illustrator, born in Loscoe, Derbyshire. He later lived in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire. His work was published on several occasions, including in Roy Spencer D.H. Lawrence country : a portrait of his early life and background with illustrations, maps and guides (London: Cecil Woolf, 1979) and George J Zytaruk (ed.) The collected letters of Jessie Chambers (Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA: D.H. Lawrence Review, 1979). He also published a series of postcards with a D H Lawrence theme in the mid-1970s.
Custodial HistoryThese records were donated to Derbyshire Record Office in August 2008.
