Administrative History | According to T Bulmer & Co. History, Topography and Directory of Derbyshire (Preston, 1895) the Working Men's Institute and Reading Room was built in 1876 at a cost of £300, raised by voluntary subscriptions. The account book contains a register of members on its first pages, and refers to the "Working Man's Institution" rather than "Working Men's Institute". The organisation is believed to have continued until some time after the second world war. |
