Administrative History | Frank Byard (1919-1996) served as a Leading Stoker in the Royal Navy during the Second World War. Most of his time served seems to have been spent aboard HMS Birmingham, which was built in Plymouth in 1937 and decommissioned in 1959. An account of the torpedoing of HMS Birmingham is available on the BBC People's War website (www.bbc.co.uk/ww2peopleswar) and a photograph of the damage done is included in Scrap Book 1 of this collection. |
