Administrative HistoryIn 1867, societies in and around Whaley Bridge and Chapel-en-le-Frith broke away from the Buxton Wesleyan Circuit (see D3568) to form the Whaley Bridge Wesleyan Methodist Circuit. At this time the Circuit was made up of eight churches - Whaley Bridge, (see D6239), Chapel-en-le-Frith (Townend), (see D6243), Bagshaw (see D6244), Combs, (see D6242), White Knowle, Chinley, Fernilee (see D6240) and Kettleshulme. In the 1950s, the Circuit saw the addition of the ex-Primitive Methodist Church chapels at Buxworth (see D6241), Dove Holes, Whitehough (see D6245) and Chapel-en-le-Frith (Market Street).

In 1966, Chapel, Market Street, united with Chapel, Townend, to form Chapel-en-le-Frith Methodist Church. Buxworth closed in 1984.

In September 2003 an amalgamation took place between the Whaley Bridge and New Mills Circuits (see D3567 & D1820) to form the High Peak Circuit. The High Peak Circuit currently comprises Brookbottom, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Chinley, Combs, Disley, Dove Holes, Hayfield, Low Leighton and White Knowle.

Churches at Whaley Bridge and Fernilee opted out to form part of a separate circuit.
