Herbert Strutt Grammar School, Belper
Administrative History
During the Second World War, pupils of the Herbert Strutt Grammar School in Belper adopted a Free French ship. After the war, the school kept in touch with the ship and the crew visited Belper on several occassions. These visits led to the then Headmaster's daughter marrying one of the sailors.
Pupils were encouraged to keep scrapbooks about France. This example is believed to have won a national competition.
Custodial History
This scrapbook was donated to Derbyshire Record Office in August 2008.
