Archive CreatorDerby Diocesan Mothers' Union
Administrative HistoryThe Mothers' Union movement began informally in 1876, as a small group in Old Alresford, in the diocese of Winchester. Since then, it has spread around the world, defining its aim as "to demonstrate the Christian faith in action by the transformation of communities worldwide through the nurture of the family in its many forms". By the time the Diocese of Derby was created, in 1927, there were already several parishes with active branches.
Custodial HistoryThese records were deposited in Derby Diocesan Record Office in July 2008

Physical DescriptionMothers' Unions exist at the level of the deanery as well as the parish. These records have been arranged by deanery, with any relevant parish branches being listed under the appropriate heading. Diocesan material is arranged separately, with one series of printed ephemera followed by the records of two committees related to Mothers' Union activity at the diocesan level.
