Derbyshire District United Reformed Church
Administrative History
The United Reformed Church was formed as a result of unions with Presbyterian and Congregationalist churches in England, Wales and Scotland from 1972 to 2000.
The Church was organised on a county level as a district with its own District Council. The council's role was mainly that of supervising and advising the individual member churches, giving pastoral care and making decisions on employment and deployment of ministers. Each local church is governed by a church meeting.
The 'Catch the Vision' programme of change and revitalisation in 2007 facilitated a restructuring of the church resulting in the dissolution of the district council level with their work being transferred to the Synod.
Custodial History
These records were deposited at Derbyshire Record Office by the Derbyshire district in August 2007. The records under D6824/5 were transferred from Warwickshire County Record Office in October 2019, having been received by them from the United Reformed Church West Midlands Province. A baptism and marriage register of the Lady Glenorchy Chapel at Matlock Bath was also transferred at the same time - see D4935.
