Description | Volume of accounts of George Marsden of Wirksworth, auctioneer, valuer and surveyor.
The outside of the volume gives covering dates of 1858 to 1880 but there are some entries for 1881. The front contains an index, little used, after which there is a summary of business from July 1858 to July 1859. Typical entries give the name of the client followed by expenses on transport, advertising etc. and the amount raised from each sale. These include entries from April and May 1864 relating to the sale of the effects of John Else after his unsuccessful claim to an inheritance in the Great Matlock Will Case, a much publicised court battle. For further details, see articles in The Times dated 26 March 1860 (p10) and 20 May 1864 (p11).
D6645/2 is a single invoice dated 6 Nov 1873, found inside the accounts book. |
