Archive CreatorSydney Seymour Hyde Stanhope, 6th Earl of Harrington (1845-1866)
Administrative HistorySeymour Sydney Hyde Stanhope succeeded to the title Earl of Harrington as a minor on the death of his father, the 5th Earl, in 1862. A Chancery case ensued, between the 6th Earl as plaintiff represented by the Duke of Leinster, and his mother Elizabeth nee Williams, Countess of Harrington (m 1831 d 1898) as defendant. The 6th Earl of Harrington died unmarried at the age of 20 on 22 February 1866 and the succession passed to a cousin, Charles William Stanhope (1809-81), who became 7th Earl of Harrington. Thomas Smith Woolley was the receiver of the Harrington estates in Derbyshire, Cheshire, Northamptonshire and Huntingdonshire.
Custodial HistoryThese records were deposited in Derbyshire Record Office via Nottinghamshire Archives by a business organisation in October 2005.
