Title
Ilkeston Local Board of Health
Date
1864-1886
Description
Local boards of health were first set up in 1848 to administer services which related to public health in populated areas not covered by Borough Councils. The Local Government Act of 1858 provided a stronger statutory base for such boards. Under the Public Health Act 1872 local boards of health were designated urban sanitary authorities and in 1894, these authorities became urban district councils under the Local Government Act of that year.
